On the first day of every month, the Blogmistress opens up a post in which YOU suggest an organisation, charity, or person that would really benefit from having a WordPress blog and/or website provided for them, including the hosting and their domain name.

Over the next 7 days we ask you to suggest a worthy cause – whatever that may be – and then you will vote on the “winner”. As soon as that’s done the team here will set to work to have the new site/blog live before the end of the month. Nominations are open until the end of Wednesday, 7th April, and then voting opens for 3 days.
The winner gets their hosting provided for at least one year (most likely as long as they need it), a domain name registered on their behalf (in their name) – with emails, of course, and WordPress installed and set up for them to best suit their needs. Of course we will also apply a good deal of SEO and social media stuff if relevant, with the intention of really giving the winner a good push in the right direction.

So – who or what do you suggest we help?

It can be a charity, a school, any non-profit organisation, a person who would really appreciate the help right now, even a bootstrapping new business, potentially.

Last month we were really glad to support Paul Weston in his determination to find a good job as quickly as he could through the world of social media. And he did. He already had a WordPress.com blog, so we moved that across to Weston007.co.uk for him and will host this for as long as he needs it. It’s an interesting tale and worth a read and referring to others that may need some encouragement to find their new job. Paul has just accepted one of two excellent job offers, which is brilliant news; and what he is also now doing is raising money for the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice Treehouse Appeal – passing it on; we love that!

Please add your suggestion below, or if you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can pop an email to Babs at hello@blogmistress.com – we will absolutely respect your privacy.

We cannot do this without your help. Quite often we’ll help people out if and where we can. But this is something we want to throw open to others. And one day, they can pass it on (if they aren’t already).

Thank you – now give us your nominations…

I love this idea, Babs. You have some really creative ideas, don't you?

  3. BabsSaul says:

Thanks Morag – I have my moments, and the team here are good too.

    Any suggestions from you?

This is a truly fantastic idea. There are many small companies or individuals out there that can benefit from this! As you have read, Babs was kind enough to support me and my quest for a job, and her help has been invaluable, and I have learnt so much from her!! I would truly recommend her work and support!

Thanks, Paul – it's a pleasure doing what we can to help you. You've picked it up and run with it – that's just what we love to help with.

  6. I'd like to nominate http://www.hovercraft-museum.org The chap who runs it tells me he needs something much easier to update… not to mention a little better looking! The charity could do with some much needed help in this respect. :) Mark

    Hi Babs

As discussed on our Tweet exchange, I would love some help with setting up Hawkinge Community Centre (HCC) website. HCC has charitable status, and has turned round in the last year from being a loss maker to a marginal profit maker, and we could do with all the help we can get to keep it active.

Thanks – happy to provide more detail if you would like!

I know this is a late entry, but it's just come to my attention. A girl I work with, Fiona, lost her sister to leukemia a few years ago. They were incredibly close.
Fi is a huge West End shows fan and goes, well ridiculously often. She has been lucky enough to get some famous names autographs which she is looking to use to raise money for Leukemia Research. It will be called Forget-me-Not project and she is a complete, complete novice in the area of websites! So any help she can get to get this off the ground would be wonderful.

I hope this is enough information for a nomination!
    Thank you.

  9. Paul Weston says:

Hi just wondered if there is anything I can do to raise some awareness for the Forget-me-not project? Please get in touch paul@weston007.co.uk. I look forward to hearing from you!

  10. marydw says:

Thank you Paul. This is for a friend of mine – she is even less technically/www minded than me so any help would be hugely appreciated.

  11. BabsSaul says:

Thank you so much for the suggestions and support with this – now to get you all voting! Poll coming up later this morning…

  12. Paul Weston says:

Marydw can you email me with some details and a link please? paul@weston007.co.uk (site provided by The blog mistress – chuckle) and I will try and raise some awareness for you :)

      Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for your offer of help.  I put the nomination in on behalf of a colleague of mine – this is the link that she has to date http://original.justgiving.com/fibeau

It’s looking good for her to win the free hosting so once that’s up and running I’m sure she’ll be very glad of the help.

      Best wishes,
      Mary D-W

Thanks Paul, I've emailed you Fi's link.
She's never done this kind of thing before so any help you can offer would be wonderfully appreciated.

I hope the new job is going well for you!

    Mary
