This post may cause alarm and offence, depending on which country you are in when you read it.
Lately I have focused on one of my WordPress sites in particular for indirect monetisation. Being a Brit, making money is a dirty word. Or Dirty phrase even. So please forgive me in advance and let me get myself partially off the money making hook by saying – on one of my sites we regularly donate the revenue gained to charity.
I could talk real Dirt, instead I shall talk some monetisation for your blog kinda dirt and hope that you are not offended
.
On the Courier Shop, I sell business guides to setting up a courier business. The site has a steady stream of regular, niche-related traffic. It generates some comment, but more comment comes via email, Twitter and other sources such as Facebook. For this blog the conversation is spread all over the place and this generates the nice niche-related traffic I mentioned.
On the site I also sell coaching, Twitter books, growing your business books and Adsense ads.
Of all my sites with Adsense this is highest converting sites – because the ads are relevant and it’s easy to integrate into the site, so the advertising becomes part of the blog and not an extension of it. I did that by accident, I didn’t consciously do it and I suspect that’s why it does well.
I have just signed up with Kontera, who provide contextual advertising in your blogs. The ads are double underlined for relevant keyphrases and up springs an ad, an image ad or a video ad. The idea being if you review a product, you will get relevant links sourced for you, none of that mucking around looking for suitable links that will eventually take a week to find, only to find your blog has lost its edge… but I digress, my apologies.
I just downloaded the WP plugin for Kontera, and WP have kicked it back out. The header is missing from the plugin file. hmmm. Won’t be making any money from them any time soon.
What else is there out there?
Well, there is Chitika, Infolinks and Adbrite.
Time to sign up and investigate them I think, then I will come back and talk some more dirty talk
Whilst I am waiting, who do you use to supplement the revenue from your site?
Sarah

Just to add, I got an email from Chitka this morning, applications to use there service are taking somewhat longer than they thought. So if you are thinking of using them, apply now as you have a long wait and your blog will be up and running long before you have to worry about them reviewing it!
