Just a quick post for those of you who use what was the wonderfully efficient EZPZ One Click Backup plugin. Having only yesterday installed this for someone, today I find that it’s behaving a little oddly, suggesting the next scheduled backup will be in 1970. Not good. On checking to see if there is a newer version available, we found the plugin is no longer listed at WordPress. Definitely not good. Time to deactivate and remove that plugin – just in case something is going on that could affect your WordPress website and/or blog. For now we will replace this [...]

Pinterest is taking hold after growing to one of the most exciting and popular social media online playgrounds last year, inspiring many of us to play and revel in creating our own boards of loveliness. And if you have loveliness, or indeed anything worthy of pinning – that might be a product, an image, a photograph, anything that people might want to share, and much more (I’m going to experiment with the Blogmistress blog) – then you want to make it really easy to, well, pin. Yes, your visitor may have a Pin It button on their browser bar, but [...]

WordPress 3.3 was launched last month and having enjoyed the festive season while allowing the plugins and themes to catch up, it’s about time to update our websites and blogs. Indeed, as is usually the case, an additional update has been released to fix a few issues – so we’ll now be updating to 3.3.1 As ever, we’ll follow the safe and steady way of doing things. You’ll have prepared for the update – carried out a full backup and have to hand your ftp details – if you haven’t, [...]

Tomorrow we’ll update WordPress. Why have we waited so long (3.3 was released mid-December)? Well partly because Christmas got in the way, and partly because we like to give the plugins and themes a chance to be double-checked that they work with the live, new version of WordPress. Even now some won’t have been checked and tweaked if necessary, and it is for those instances that it’s wise to be prepared. So – before you even think of updating, do the following. Hopefully, by the law of sod, you won’t need them, but we’ve had a few rescues to do [...]

The P.S. (aka the post-script) is the last thing on the sales page, on the blog post right after the post creator’s name. If you have made an offer in your post then a call to action here is very powerful. In short it’s the ideal place for you to close as well as remind your readers about your offer. Reading online is a funny thing. Many people scan, so to make it easier for them to digest my content I pull out sub headers. This is so that the reader who scans, who scrolls all the way down to [...]

At the end of November we can look forward to the next full version of WordPress – version 3.3 (at time of writing, the expected date is 29th). What this means, this time around, is lots of tidying up of the admin/dashboard side of things, it seems. Perhaps the most exciting new feature is a smooth and hugely improved media uploader that will mean we can drag and drop images, documents, etc into WordPress – cool! And behind the scenes, there are some performance improvements, with the permalinks setup and a few other areas that we don’t need to trouble [...]
