Fear not, gentle WordPress user, forgetting your password is something WordPress allows for and makes simple to remedy within minutes.
First, go to your WordPress login page. If you cannot remember where this is, try going to your website address and then add /wp-login.php – so for my site that is www.blogmistress.com/wp-login.php.
On the login page you’ll see a “Lost your password” link. Click this.
You will then be asked for either your login/username or the email address used for your login/username. Enter this and then click “Get New Password”
An email will arrive at the address you gave or for the username you used – within moments, quite often (indeed, if you don’t receive an email within a few minutes, I suggest you try again, double-checking the username or email address).
In the email is a link – click on that and you will be taken to another web page on which you can set your new password.
It even tells you how good your password is likely to be – aim for “Strong” – and then “Reset Password”. No pets, obvious words or phrases or other such simple stuff – you need to be secure.
You’re taken to a fresh login page in which you can enter your Username and new Password. Ticking the “Remember Me” box will do just that and auto-fill both fields so you don’t have to remember your password all the time – until you clear your cache, change computers, etc again…
Now if you cannot remember your login username or the email address you used (and after you’ve tried all options), this wants some investigation and I’ll write up your options later, or just give us a call and if we can help, we will.
I hope this is helpful for you.
